Luxury Hand Crafted Accessories: Buba London
Sunday, June 26, 2011
As a self-confessed embroidery and trimmings addict, for regular readers it will not be a surprise that my new addiction emerges in the form of intricately embellished accessories from the luxury London label Buba.
The brand created by couple Euan McDonald and Lesley Silwood have been inspired by the florescent glamour of Ibiza’s Techno scene to the exotic cultural colours and the shapes of Goa, the place they agreed to meet nine years ago after serendipitously bumping into each other all over the place.
Each handbag is handmade in Delhi by a group of artisans who are well regarded in the world of accessories. Geometric patterns, a touch of colour, the adornment of semi-precious stones and delicate embroidery add for a truly unique fashion item.
The Jewellery is by the brand Cabinet, founded two years ago by designers’ Gemma Critchley and Zara Braganca, which has seen huge success since their initial launch at London Fashion Week in 2009 where they exhibited beside Buba London in their first season. It was truly inspiration at first sight and the rest they say is history. Now in their second collaboration the C4b (Cabinet for Buba) collection was showcased with Buba in London and Paris.

For AW11 the C4b collection perfectly captures the indicative style of the old Hollywood glamour. Dark undertones of shadowed violet, stone and jet serve to counteract the signature embellishments and layers of texture.
Soft furs, antique vintage metals and exquisite beading are reminiscent of a bygone era where extravagance is a statement in itself. After all, who could resist a necklace with a splash of fur, jewels and beading? Not me!
The mainline Buba SS11 collection remains faithful to their pop colour tendencies, although for AW11, Buba have grown up and toned down the brights and opted for a luxurious colour palette of nuanced shades of gold, oyster and ivory.
Be sure to check out their dazzling new website too, featuring photo-shoots, catwalk shows and even the option to buy online. It is an experience in itself not to be missed!!
